Hugh Bish's Blood Drive for Maddy Hunt

Lawton,Okla_It was a special day at one local elementary school. Lawton's Hugh Bish hosted a blood drive in honor of one of their students. Maddy Hunt is a 2nd grader at the school and she has leukemia.

Her case was the driving force behind this year's blood drive and it was a huge success. Hugh Bish's student council sponsor Larissa Krusinsky says she expected about 50 people to donate throughout the day.But by the first hour, 40 people had already given blood. By the end, 100 people had donated. Among those donors were some very special folks.

"A former parent of ours came back with his military friends and we had a great group of GIs to support us,"said Krusinsky.

As for those who are a little squeamish about getting stuck by a needle, she gave some advice that helped  motivate her to donate. "Help someone else who has not only physical pain but maybe emotional and financial pain. That in itself makes me put my fears aside."
