Child Sexual Abuse Arrest

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSON CO. Okla _ A 43-year-old man and an 18-year-old man are behind bars in Jefferson County Monday, accused of sexually abusing a young girl.

Police arrested David Grubbs and the teenager after the girl, who is now 8 years old, told a teacher about the alleged abuse. According to an affidavit, Grubbs admitted to sexually abusing the young girl between 2008 and 2010, when the girl was three and five years old. The affidavit states Grubbs said he knew it was wrong. The teenager is being charged as a youthful offender. Authorities say he was 15-years-old at the time of the incident.

According to court documents, the young girl spoke up during a summer safety lesson. The teacher was talking about bathing suits and how to recognize when they are being touched inappropriately and soon noticed the girl had cowered in her seat.

When the teacher asked if everything was alright, she came out with what she said had happened. Assistant District Attorney Carrie Hixon has prosecuted cases like this before, and said they're difficult to handle.

"It's always devastating when we hear about any victim of child abuse, sexual abuse or anything of that nature," Hixon said.

She credits the Jefferson County School System about teaching students how to recognize inappropriate touching. She said it was vital in getting the victim to open up about their ordeal.

"The school system is always our first line in ensuring the safety of these kids," Hixon said. "These teachers are with these kids day in and day out, and they know when their demeanor changes, if something is bothering them, if something is going on."

Hixon wouldn't go into details about what kind of person would commit such a crime, but did say sometimes, it is generational, which creates a vicious cycle that is difficult to stop. Hixon said Grubbs faces at least 25 years in prison, if he's convicted. He is in jail under $100,000 bond .
