Northrop Grumman Introduces Control System at Ft. Sill Seminar

Posted: Updated:

FORT SILL, Okla_ Another item on the agenda at the Fires conference is the advancement of weaponry. Forty vendors from across the nation are using the seminar as an opportunity to show off new products to Army personnel.

Northrop Grumman has created technology called IBCS, or Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System. It's a neutral command and control system that coordinates information across a network in a way that will help keep troops safe from friendly fire.

"It happened twice during Operation Iraqi Freedom," said Systems Engineer Tom Jensen. "Those incidents happened, because there was a lot of confusion. Operators didn't have the right information to make the right decision at the right time. IBCS will correct a lot of those problems."

Northrop Grumman said the army has already bought the system, and that it will be implemented beginning in 2016.

The army would not confirm the information.
