DA: Too Soon To Talk Charges Against Tulsa Dentist

Posted: Updated:

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa County's top prosecutor says no decision has been made on filing criminal charges against a Tulsa oral surgeon at the center of a public health scare.

District Attorney Tim Harris says the investigation of Dr. W. Scott Harrington could take a "significant amount of time," noting that state and federal agencies are working the case.

In March, Harrington's roughly 7,000 patients were urged to get tested for hepatitis and the virus that causes AIDS.

So far, 69 of Harrington's patients have tested positive for hepatitis C, four patients for hepatitis B and one or two patients tested positive for HIV. Updated numbers are expected Thursday.

It's unclear if the patients contracted the diseases at Harrington's clinics.

More than 3,700 patients have been tested. Harrington is cooperating with investigators.
