Lawton, Okla._Lawton mail carriers collected food to help fill the shelves at the Lawton Food Bank.
Saturday the United States Post Office conducted its annual nationwide food drive with mail carriers going door to door to collect thousands of pounds of food that will help to stop hunger in Lawton and the surrounding communities. U.S. postal carrier Wayne Watts said that he has been a part of the drive for nine years and collected more food than ever Saturday.
"It is a really great deal. It feeds the mouths and there are a lot of hungry mouths that need to be fed out there. Our goal is to stamp out hunger, bottom line that's out goal," said Wayne Watts.
"I look forward to this day every year. This is the first large food drive we have had since the holidays and it is right before children are released from school for the summer so it is vital for our success," said Jeri Mosinan, Lawton Food Bank Executive Director
With the summer months approaching, the Lawton Food Bank has an even greater demand. If you missed out on Saturday's opportunity to donate, non-perishable food donations are always welcome at the Lawton Food Bank.
