Tornado Victims Return Home

GRANBURY, Texas_Emotions were high Saturday as residents of a North Texas town waited to return to their homes for the first time after being ravaged by a tornado.

Hundreds lined up on Saturday at a Granbury church to get a chance to see their homes for the first time after the destruction, but found themselves frustrated by the long wait.

 

Officials say the wait was longer than expected because so many people showed up.

The registration is required DPS to return.  

And as those hit hardest waited to register, they re-called the unthinkable.

"Ya'll would say 'this'll never happen to me.' Don't bank on it. It could, " said Asa Maddox, whose home was damaged by the tornado.


The Texas Department of Public Safety says cars must pass through a three- lane checkpoint to enter the neighborhood.  

Granbury bore the brunt of an outbreak of 16 tornadoes that swept through North Texas on Wednesday night.

Six people were killed and dozens injured.
