NASA Reports Explosion on Moon

Posted: Updated:

NASA scientists have recorded a powerful explosion on the moon.

A meteoroid struck the moon's surface at speeds of 56-thousand-miles-an-hour back on March 17th, but they just released this information on Friday.

The impact was so powerful the flash of bright light from the blast could be seen on Earth with the naked eye.

NASA astronomers have been monitoring the moon for the past eight years as part of a program to find and monitor space debris that could hit Earth.

No need to worry, NASA says it sees hundreds of detectable lunar meteoroid impacts a year.
