Xcel Energy crews helping with recovery efforts

Amarillo, Texas - Xcel Energy linemen from the panhandle and New Mexico will be helping with recovery efforts in Oklahoma. More than 20,000 residents were left without power.

Thirty-five Xcel employees will rebuild distribution lines that provide power to homes and businesses in Moore.

"To help OG&E, the local utility. Obviously they've got a mess and one of the critical things to do is to get the power lines out of the roadways, make it safe. And then begin as quickly as possible to rebuild," Wes Reeves, Xcel Energy spokesman says.

The company sent 29 line workers before yesterday's tornado to rebuild lines that were hit by the area's first tornado outbreak In the Shawnee area. In all, Xcel sent more than 60 employees from Texas and New Mexico to help restore power to the affected areas.
