Alleged fatal neglect at Oklahoma veterans home

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A former physician assistant at the Claremore Veterans Center is facing murder charges for the alleged neglect-related deaths of two patients in their 80s.

The indictment unsealed Monday charges 60-year-old Kenneth A. Adams of Fort Gibson with two counts of second-degree murder and neglect by a caretaker.

The charges say Adams committed caretaker neglect in May 2012, which led to the death of 85-year-old Peter ``Jay'' Minter, who suffered thermal burns.

Adams is also accused of committing caretaker neglect in March 2012 that led to the death of 86-year-old Louis Arterberry. Adams allegedly ignored signs that Arterberry was having a stroke.

Adams' defense attorney, Trevor Reynolds, says Adams is not guilty.
