Moore Takes a Hard Financial Hit

Posted: Updated:

MOORE, Okla_The effects from the Moore tornado are still hitting far and wide. Businesses in Moore say they are struggling after the region was pounded by deadly tornadoes last month.

Several businesses are gone, while others were forced to close down for several days. Now, many owners say business is down.  Officials with the city say they are also bracing for bad news: they expect revenue from sales tax to fall, before it's expected to rebound down the road.

City officials say 75 percent of their general fund is made up of retail sales tax dollars which means this dip in business will impact the city budget.

The EF-5 tornado that hit Moore on May 21st killed 24 people and devastated much of the community.
