Crews Search For Missing Boy At Waurika Lake

Posted: Updated:

Waurika, Ok_The search resumed Monday for a boy who presumably drowned at Waurika Lake.

The boy, who is believed to be between the ages of 10 and 12, was with several family members near the Kiowa Park One campsite when he disappeared, Saturday evening.

Relatives reportedly saw the boy drift away from the group and go under water before anyone could reach him.

Today, nearly two dozen family members stood by as the Oklahoma Highway patrol search boat returned to the water.

The boat dragged the west side of the lake, trying to locate the missing boy as more first responders used other rescue equipment.  A couple of divers even split up and plunged under water to search.

OHP officials say the water is so dark, divers are forced to feel their way around and lake depths can change at any moment.  An area three feet deep could drop up to 13 feet deep instantly.

At this time, rescuers still have not found any sign of the child.  OHP Captain George Brown said they will continue to look for him until they find something, no matter how long it may take.
