City planning commission approves proposed movie theater development

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._Another movie theater is in the works for the City of Lawton. The proposed theater cleared its first hurdle Thursday.

The city planning commission approved the development of the theater that would be on 67th and Rogers Lane, just north of Walmart.

The project would involve adding two new traffic lights. One would be in front of the north entrance to the Grayson's Mountain neighborhood on 67th. The developer would pay for that installation. The other would be put up at 67th and Rogers, and that would be paid for by the city.

Several steps will need to be taken before final plans are presented. The next move will be to get approval from the Lawton City Council.

If the council approves, the project would likely open around Christmas next year. The developer said, eventually, a shopping center and new restaurants would be added to the development.
