North Korea Reaching Out to the U.S.

Posted: Updated:

NORTH KOREA_Just months after a stream of angry Anti-American rhetoric and threats of war, North Korea is reaching out to the US.

Its state-run news agency reports North Korea is proposing high-level talks with the American Government, to -quote- ease tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

The report says topics that could be discussed include easing military tensions, a change from a truce treaty to a peace treaty, and nuclear matters.

Details like when and where to hold the talks would be left up to Washington.

The report says the United States should -quote- not lose the opportunity, and should actively agree with North Korea's good intentions.

There's no public response yet from the US State Department or the White House, but previously, the Obama Administration has said talks would happen only if North Korea showed it was serious about ending its nuclear program.
