Water connector break leaves handful of residents without water

Posted: Updated:

A water connector break Sunday afternoon left a geyser of water shooting sky-high in one Amarillo neighborhood for several hours.

City officials aren't sure what time the break happened, but the break was located in the 2900 block of Spring Street. The break was not a water main, but instead a connector.

The eight-inch line busted out, causing a large hole in the paved road, but officials said that actually makes for an easier repair than if it had busted in, under the ground. NewsChannel 10 was told the city temporarily had to turn off that water line while they worked to repair the break. A few residents were temporarily without water including those living in homes with even addresses in the 4100 block of 30th Street and odd addresses in the 4100 block of 29th Street.

Officials hoped to have their water restored by about 6:30 Sunday evening. The hole will be barricaded off and repairs on the street will begin once the connector is fixed.
