Morning storms cause power outages across the panhandle

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Some downed power poles in the north east panhandle has shut down power to four small towns.

The cities Darrouzett, Follett, Higgins and Lipscomb, all in Lipscomb County, are all without power right now as crews work to repair more than a dozen power poles that were taken out between Booker and Darrouzett during this morning's storms.

Xcel Energy spokesman Wes Reeves says it will likely be late this afternoon before all power is restored to these communities.

Also this morning in Amarillo, a downed substation left more than 3,000 customers without power for a short time just after 9:00. Crews were able to connect those customers to another source to fully restore power before 10:00.
