Tornado-Ravaged Moore Hospital Set For Demolition

MOORE, Okla. (AP) - A 45-bed community hospital and two adjacent medical office buildings in Moore that were struck by a deadly tornado last month are scheduled to be demolished.

Hospital officials say demolition of the Moore Medical Center is to begin Tuesday morning following a ceremony for employees of the facility.

About 200 people worked full-time at the medical center, which is part of the Norman Regional Health System. The buildings were determined by structural engineers and insurance adjusters to be a total loss.

Norman Regional spokeswoman Kelly Wells says most of the employees at the center are being absorbed into other hospitals in Norman, while others whose homes were destroyed are being aided through a hospital program.

Norman Regional officials have not decided what type of replacement facility will be constructed.
