Kemp Pleads Not Guilty to Escape Charge

Posted: Updated:

COMANCHE CO., Okla_ David Lee Kemp, the infamous fugitive who surrendered in April after 14 years on the lam, was back in court Wednesday. This time, he had a lawyer with him.

The first time he appeared at his arraignment in Comanche County District Court, he was on his own, and the judge allowed him to plead not guilty.

Wednesday, he had counsel, and he pleaded not guilty again. Kemp was to be tried for the murders of his ex-wife Cristina Cremer and her friend Robert Miller back in 1998. While awaiting trial, Kemp escaped from the Comanche County Jail in 1999. Wednesday's not guilty plea was for the escape charge. The murder charge is a separate issue.
