Marlow Names Interim City Administrator

MARLOW, Okla_A week after the City of Marlow ousted Janice Cain as City Administrator, they've named an interim replacement.

Jason McPherson was named as the new man on the job during Marlow's Council Meeting Tuesday night.

McPherson was born and raised in Marlow and has served the community as Chamber President, Lions Club President and most recently as Community Services Coordinator for the past year.

McPherson put it simply, it's time to move on. He understands that last week's events came as a surprise and in some ways may have divided the town, but he said for the sake of progress he's ready to put it behind him.

"I woke up today and I was city manager of my hometown...I mean you can't, you can't ask for a better thing, " said McPherson .

Jason McPherson is excited to try on the new role of Interim City Administrator, and he'll have to hit the ground running. Lots of projects like a new City Hall, side walk improvements and the coming of a library are in the works, and they'll all need his attention.

"I've been involved in almost all those things so to have that cohesiveness...we've got to keep these projects going, " said McPherson.

Councilman Wes Walker, who voted to keep Janice Cain, said McPherson is the person who will make this transition as painless as possible.

"I think we all need to realize this is not so much about Janice or some members of the council. It is that we probably should've handled it a little bit differently. I think we all could've done better. I think we learned some things from it and hopefully we'll be able to go forward and make the right decisions for everybody, " said Walker .

Jason McPherson said of the situation surrounding him receiving the position that the council has no choice but to put it behind them. He says they need to move forward and focus solely on what's best for Marlow.

"It's time to move on. I mean I think everybody involved knows it's time to move on. We're moving forward. Tomorrow you gotta get after it and the next day you have to get after it, " said McPherson.

McPherson said if given the opportunity he'd love to keep the position permanently. He said it's a dream of his to lead his hometown and would be proud to remain at the position for years to come.

For now McPherson will remain Interim City Administrator indefinitely. The council is taking applications for the job, but there has not been a timeline set for the hiring process.
