Last Day For Testing For Patients Of Tulsa Dentist

Posted: Updated:

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Free testing is wrapping up for patients of a Tulsa oral surgeon accused of having unsanitary conditions in his offices.

More than 4,000 patients of Dr. W. Scott Harrington have been tested and Friday is the last day that health officials are offering free checks for pathogens.

Four people have tested positive for HIV, 77 for hepatitis C and five for hepatitis B. However, health officials say there is no indication the illnesses were contracted due to treatment by Harrington.

Health experts say the spread of disease in dental clinics is extremely rare. Harrington is cooperating with investigators.

Health officials sounded the alarm on March 28 that Harrington's patients stood a chance of being exposed to blood-borne diseases.
