Firework sales booming this year

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - With fewer burn bans in place and recent rainfall, firework sales are booming this Independence Day.

It has been one of the best years for firework stands. Fireworks have been flying off the shelves since they went on sale June 24th.

We visited several places this Fourth of July, all of which were not without customers. The Dollar Store Fireworks on East Hastings only has what is on their shelves left, and owner Randy Carthel tells us he anticipates being out of stock before dark.

All the stands we spoke with say yesterday's traffic is normally what they expect to see on the Fourth.

"Last night was normally like on the Fourth. I mean we were flat covered up. We couldn't even park the cars out here, they were backed up so deep. And I'm sure the other stands were, too because everybody's missed out on getting to pop these fireworks. They're ready to do it,"  Carthel says.

Everyone we spoke with says the rain is playing a big factor in sales. Fewer firework bans, and even a better economy is bringing people out.

If you still need to purchase fireworks for festivities, you still have time. Stands will remain open until midnight July 4th.
