Thousands of students to retake STAAR test

Amarillo, TX - Thousands of Texas students will retake the STAAR exam Monday.

Standardized test result for the state show many high school students are struggling to pass.

When students fail, school districts must offer them some remedial help.

Some offer simple test preparation classes that can be completed in a day and others offer several weeks of courses.

Amarillo recently received results from the STAAR exam.

Students in AISD schools performed best in science assessments with over an 80 percent passing.

Administrators say they also did really well on their math and social studies exams.

The reading and writing portion of the test was the biggest struggle, around 30 percent of students in grades 3 through 8 did not pass.
