New Mexico cuts down public defender staff

Amarillo, TX - Defendants looking for a public defenders in New Mexico may soon face longer trial delays.

One fourth of the employees at the Office of the Federal Public Defender in New Mexico are facing lay offs due to budget cuts.

Similar cuts look to be in store for Texas as well.

The Western District of Texas Court based in San Antonio has the second-highest rate of cases per attorney in the entire country
