House Dem leader: special session 'waste of time'

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The House Democratic leader says the idea of a special session to address a civil lawsuit bill that was ruled unconstitutional by the courts is a "waste of time and money."

Rep. Scott Inman of Del City said Monday he believes most Oklahomans agree with his caucus that spending about $30,000 per day to vote on a bill that can be taken up in February is a waste of taxpayer money.

Gov. Mary Fallin is continuing to explore with Republican legislative leaders the option of a special session to address the bill that made several significant changes to the way civil lawsuits are handled and damages are awarded.

Inman says there are more pressing issues for legislators to consider, like school safety and pay raises for public safety workers.
