Using new technology to boost local business

Lacie Landry is an independent contractor for Google. She owns Xtreme Media in Amarillo and creates virtual tours that are  displayed on Google Maps for area businesses.

Using a special camera, Landry is able to photograph a business and then piece it together so customers have the ability to walk through the store without leaving their computer.

"I do get calls from customers who say they've seen the tours and its a really nice thing to look at," Landry said. "I put it into a program that Google provides us and basically make it comfortable for the customer to walk through as if they were actually in the store," she added.

Small business experts says using this technology not only helps the company, but is also beneficial for customers.

"The more you can showcase your business and your product on line for people to see before they get there and have it in their hands, the better because they are familiar with your product, they know what to expect and they know what they are going to get with it," said Kyle Frye, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator with the West Texas A&M University Enterprise Center. 

Texotic Pets, located in Wolflin Square in Amarillo, is one of those stores that has been mapped by Landry. The owner says it helps her customers see what she has to offer and has benefited business.
