Friends Remember Homicide Victim Traci Young

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ A talented singer and friend to all. That's how Lawton's 12th homicide victim, Traci Young, is being remembered by friends and family.

Young was killed Wednesday night after she was shot twice in the chest while inside her home on the 1100 block of NW Andrews. Young's ex-husband, Bryan Pierce, was arrested.

Now her family and friends from across the country are using social media to speak out about her life.

For Cherryl Zollars, it is still hard to grasp that Traci is actually gone. She watched her grow up, and Traci actually called Cherryl, Mom Z. To Cherryl and those who knew Traci best, it is important that everyone know the special person she was, and how much she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

"She always had a smile on her face. She never knew a stranger," said Zollars.

For Cherryl Zollars, it was the phone call that she never wanted to receive, and news that she couldn't bring herself to grasp.

"I couldn't believe it. I had no words. You have got to have the wrong one. It can't be her," said Zollars.

And she is still in shock that her beloved friend, Traci Young, is gone.

"This is almost like losing one of my kids. It is hard to take," said Zollars.

Traci impacted Cherryl's life from a young age. Even though they lost contact over the years, every time they saw it each other it was like no time had passed.

"She was an amazing young lady, and everyone that knew her loved her," said Zollars.

Traci was most known for her love for music. She loved to sing and perform.

"She was amazing. She has a beautiful voice, and you could tell that it came from inside. You know that she meant everything that she sang. She was just a beautiful person inside and out," said Zollars.

And for all those who knew and loved her for her kind and loving spirit, this news is hard to grasp.

"It is a tragic loss, definitely something that should not have happened," said Zollars.
