CU Welcomes Students with Week of Activities

LAWTON Okla_ Cameron University has a full slate of activities planned for new and returning students during its supersized Welcome Week, which kicks off on Wednesday, August 14, the first day of class. Welcome Week activities are open to all Cameron students at no charge and are sponsored by the Programming Activities Council (PAC), a student-led organization, unless otherwise noted.

"We want Cameron students to arrive on campus with a sense of excitement and anticipation," says Jennifer Holland, Vice President for Student Services. "By offering so many activities during the first week of class, we're providing students with numerous opportunities to relax and have fun. Welcome Week is a part of the complete college experience that we want our students to enjoy."

The Welcome Week schedule follows.


Wednesday, Aug. 14
Free Breakfast, 7:30 – 10 a.m., between McMahon Centennial Complex (MCC) & Sciences Complex

Thursday, Aug. 15
Poster Sale: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Buddy Green Room, MCC
The Norman Magic Experience, 9 p.m., McCasland Ballroom, MCC

Saturday, Aug. 17

Pep Rally and Block Party: 6:30 p.m. Aggie Gym

Sunday, Aug. 18 
Welcome Week Olympics: 3:30 p.m., Aggie Rec Center lawn

Monday, Aug. 19
Free Pizza: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. McCasland Ballroom, MCC

PAC Meeting: 5:30 p.m., Buddy Green Room, MCC

Tuesday, Aug. 20
Blood Drive: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. McCasland Ballroom

Movie Night: Carmike Cinema, time and movie to be determined

Wednesday, Aug. 21
Paint the Town Black and Gold Partner Fair: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., MCC
Cosmic Zumba: 9 p.m., Aggie Rec Center

Thursday, Aug. 22
Student Organization Fair & T-Shirt Swap: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., MCC lawn
Root Beer Float Day: 6-7:30 p.m., Cynthia S. Ross Hall lawn, sponsored by the Cameron University Alumni Association
Laser Tag: 7 – 10 p.m., Cynthia S. Ross Hall lawn

 

Prior to Welcome Week, incoming freshmen have the opportunity to participate in Aggie Escape, an overnight adventure designed to acquaint new students with Cameron traditions. Aggie Escape is scheduled for August 8-9.

 

Freshmen will also be attending Gold Rush, an orientation event, on Saturday, August 17.
