Kitchens manslaughter trial set for January

Lawton, Ok_Klayton Kitchens pleaded not guilty to manslaughter at his formal arraignment Thursday morning in Comanche County District Court.

A judge set his trial for January 2014, and ordered his bond to remain at $25,000.  It had been raised to $100,000 in June, and then reduced to the original amount of $25,000 at a previous hearing July 12.

Kitchens, 23, is accused of shooting Christopher Moore to death outside a home in Lawton in May 2013.  Kitchens said he acted in self-defense after he and Moore argued over a gun.

However, prosecutors said while Kitchens may not have intended to kill Moore, he was responsible for the death, because he showed no regard for Moore's safety when he pointed the gun at him.
