Majestic Eagles Visit Great Plains Coliseum

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Ok_Three Majestic Eagles visited Lawton's Great Plains Coliseum, Thursday.

The birds of prey were badly injured but are being rehabilitated by the Grey Snow Eagle House in Perkins, Oklahoma. The bird sanctuary is run by the Iowa tribe that takes in injured birds from all over the country.

One of the eagles, Arby, was shot in Utah.  He lost his wing and now is only able to fly short distances.

Megan Trope, who works for Grey Snow Eagle House, said Arby has a good personality.  He visits schools and assisted living homes.

The Iowa tribe started the sanctuary in 2006 and has rehabilitated 47 birds, so far. These days, it's seeing more injured eagles as more homes and wind farms go up.

Trope said when the birds molt, or lose, their feathers, they don't get thrown away because the tribe uses them for religious purpose.

The eagle presentation was courtesy of the Lawton Kiwanis Club.
