Posted: Updated:

Lawton, OK_Area law enforcement now has a place to dump meth-making materials recovered from drug busts.

In a ceremony Friday morning, authorities from the Comanche County Sheriff's department, the Lawton Police department and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics unveiled an 8 ft. fortified metal box that can withstand a tornado.

Darrell Weaver, Director of the OBN, said the box is a both safe and cost efficient.  "Local law enforcement can bring their methamphetamine labs to the container and they don't have to sit on site and wait for a disposal company", Weaver said.  "It's a safe way to dispose of meth labs they don't have to wait and it costs the state of Oklahoma a lot less money."

In the past, law enforcement would have to wait up to seven hours for disposal units to arrive.  Weaver said there are ten containers placed around Oklahoma and they have already saved the state more than $1,000,000.
