Wheat and Stocker Conference

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Ok_We're not out of the drought yet but farmers and ranchers are more optimistic these days.

That was the message, Tuesday, at the annual Wheat and Stocker conference at Lawton's Great Plains Coliseum.  It was a chance to let local cattle and wheat producers know what's affecting their livelihood.

"Certainly we are not out of the drought yet but from this program standpoint, now we can talk about maybe buying some cattle to put out on wheat pasture, we can do a better job of going out and planting wheat," said Stan Bevers, Professor and Extension Economist at Texas A&M University.

Farming is an industry that is constantly at the mercy of the weather.  One of the main areas of discussion was how all this recent rainfall has impacted the drought.
