Suicide Note Causes Stir Over Fictional Treasure

Posted: Updated:

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas_A suicide note left by a local sports reporter in Overland Park, Kansas, led police on a wild goose chase for buried treasure Friday.

Police say Martin Manley had been planning his death for months and had been outlining the details on his website. In one post Manley said he'd buried $200,000 worth of gold and silver coins in Overland Park. He even provided the exact GPS location.

After searching the area with metal detectors, police say there is no buried treasure.

Police turned away at least 12 people with shovels who came looking for the loot.
