West Nile Virus Found in Mosquitoes at Fort Sill

Posted: Updated:

Fort Sill, Ok_Fort sill has confirmed the presence of the West Nile Virus in mosquitoes on post, but there have not been any cases of human infection at this point.

Officials say they were discovered in 4 of the 6 traps placed around the post.  Fort sill is working closely with a Lawton pest control company and City of Lawton's department of Public Works to combat the mosquito problem.

The company has put larvicide blocks in storm drains and in low or standing water sources around post to stop mosquitoes from breeding.  That will continue until no more mosquitoes show up in the traps. In the meantime, follow your normal precautions to protect against mosquito bites.
