AQHA ordered to pay plaintiffs' attorney fees

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - The American Quarter Horse Association will have to pay almost $900,000 in legal fees after a new ruling.

On Monday (Aug. 19), U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson ruled AQHA is required to compensate plaintiffs Jason Abraham and Dr. Greg Veneklasen for their legal expenses.

Judge Robinson's order reasoned that since a jury decided excluding cloned horses violated the Sherman Antitrust Act, and thereby harmed the plaintiffs, they were entitled to compensation.

The order directs AQHA to pay a total of $891,387 to Abraham, Veneklasen, and their joint venture.
