Comanche Co. Excise Board rejected proposed budget

Posted: Updated:

COMANCHE CO,Okla_The Comanche County Excise Board rejected the proposed budget from the County Commissioners Wednesday after one of the members objected to part of the Sheriff's budget.

JP Richard specifically criticized the amount of money Sheriff Ken Stradley said they spent each year on funeral escorts. The submitted paperwork saying it amounted to $648 a year.

Richard said he believed it had to be much higher and said the Sheriff Stradley was misrepresenting the amount on purpose.

"I'm just upset that he would just outright fabricate this stupid budget statement that he made. If it were up to me, I'd take $200,000 out of his budget and pass it around to the other departments that actually provide some service to the county," said Richard.

Richard made a motion to that end, which was approved.  So, they directed Commissioner Don Hawthorne to re-figure the budget proposal and bring it back next month.

Hawthorne said he'd have the figures by September 14th so the board would be able to vote on it September 18th.
