Habitat for Humanity blesses home for Amarillo family

After living as refugees in Tanzania for years, relocating their family to the United States, and working on the construction of a house for more than a year, one family can now happily say they have their own home in Amarillo.

Saturday, Amarillo Habitat for Humanity hosted a House Blessing for Desire and Alphonsine Dicera and their five children. The family has lived in Amarillo for two years and has spent the last year putting in more than 500 sweat equity hours building this home with the help of the community and Habitat for Humanity. Now, thanks to their own hard work, determination and commitment, this family was ready to claim ownership of their own house.

"I would like to tell you, Habitat for Humanity is a great organization to help people, especially low income people to own their own home for the first time in the United States," said Nzirubusu Dicera, new Habitat for Humanity Home Owner. "It's an organization based on love, and they don't care where you came from, they just help you to get your own home."

While building their new home, the Dicera family also attended financial stability classes and worked full-time jobs to continue supporting their family.
