Area kids get creative at Discovery Center's 'MindFest'

Posted: Updated:

Even though many kids haven't headed back to the classroom just yet, a number of children and their families still had fun exploring and exercising their own minds today, at the Don Harrington Discovery Center's "MindFest".

All the fun kicked off Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. and the all day festival was open to everyone with a curious or playful mind. Various booths and exhibits were set up all around the center, encouraging folks to come build, invent, explore, create, dance, reflect and just have fun.

"So we really give the kids a chance to create whatever that want in Mindfest, because we're trying to get kids to think a little more," said event coordinator Mandi Reed. "A lot of time today, stuff is done for them or they don't get to be as creative as they'd like to be, here at MindFest, we give kids the opportunity to express themselves."

The Discovery Center is also getting ready to host the Mad Scientist Ball coming up in October.

For ticket information, call the center at 355-9547.
