SWAT stand-off suspect in custody

UPDATE: Amarillo, TX - 59 year old, Robert Lingerfelt is behind bars this morning, facing four counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer.

The entire stretch of Hillside was locked down between Bell Street and Coulter as police evacuated people from their homes.

Authorities say it all began as a domestic dispute. Amarillo SWAT took Lingerfelt into custody, he is now being held in the Randall County Jail.


Amarillo, TX - A SWAT standoff has come to an end in Amarillo. Police tell us it began shortly after 5:00 Tuesday afternoon when officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the 5900 block of Winkler Drive.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside his home, leading to evacuations of the immediate area. Traffic on Hillside was blocked off for hours as officers worked to bring him outside.

The bomb squad was called, and police say the suspect was eventually drawn out and taken into custody after 8:00.

APD investigating shooting, 5900 Blk of Winkler-residents in immediate area evacuated.

Officers are on the scene of a reported shorting in the 5900 block of Winkler. APD SWAT is responding as a suspect may be in a home there.

Please avoid area, also drivers avoid area of Hillside between Bell and Coulter, roads into area are blocked for emergency responders.

Residents of nearby homes have been moved to safety.
