Chris Lane's funeral held in Australia

Posted: Updated:

Essendon, Australia- Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in Australia for Chris Lane.

The 22-year old East Central University baseball player was gunned down in Duncan a little less than two weeks ago. Today, friends and family gathered at a church to pay their respects, including Lane's girlfriend, Sarah Harper, who draped an Oklahoma flag over his casket.

Lane's sister spoke and gave a tearful goodbye. "This week, more than ever, we have realized that Christopher will always be with us in our memories and forever in our hearts," said Andrea Lane.

His father also gave an emotional speech. He recalled the last time he spoke with his son and how hard it has been to come to terms with his son's death. "When someone as young as Chris loses their life it's always a tragedy. But when the life is lost for no purpose and with no logic, it makes it much harder to understand and accept," said Peter Lane.)

Lane's official cause of death was released Tuesday, saying he was killed by a "penetrating gunshot wound to the back.''Three teenagers are charged in connection with his homicide.
