Driver Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ 7News has new information tonight on that deadly accident on I-44 in Lawton Sunday night.

We've learned the driver of the car who hit and killed a man who was walking across the highway has been arrested. 53 -year-old Misty Yeats was arrested for driving with a revoked license and for causing a death without a valid license.

Police have not released the name of the victim, as they are still trying to locate the next of kin. Investigators say he was 56 years old and was hit on the road as Yeats was headed toward the Gore Boulevard exit ramp.

David Dupree, the general manager at one of the hotels along the west side of the turnpike, said he sees people cross the highway frequently. He said to make things worse it is usually in the evening time.

"We'll see quite a few folks who park their bicycles right here and then take the journey across or come back across," Dupree said.

With the interstate cutting in between the hotel and the casino, one could expect a few brave souls to try and make the risky trip. Dupree said as for his guests, that is not the case.

"We have an agreement with the casino across the street; they'll bring a van over free of charge and pick up the guest," Dupree said. "I believe they do that for all the hotels here on the walk."

To make sure his guests are safe, Dupree makes sure that they know of the service.

"A lot of folks come in for weekend travel or leisure travel who want to use the services of the casino," Dupree said. "When we're asked, ‘How do I get across?', we always volunteer the van for the casino."

The police investigators assigned to this case were not available for comments Monday, after working on the accident overnight. Yeats is still being held in jail and awaits charges for when the courthouse reopens after being closed for the Labor Day holiday.
