Dead Catfish in Ute Lake

Ute Lake, NM - Dozens of catfish in Ute Lake are dying, and the cause of death is puzzling New Mexico's Department of Game and Fish biologists.

The fish were found floating in the lake about a week after underwater blasting was conducted for construction of a water project.

Immediately after the blasting, numerous other types of fish were found dead but only one catfish.

The Fisheries Chief claims there's no conclusive link between the blast and the rising number of dead catfish. But the Sport Fish Program Manager says it's possible the fish died later after being injured by the shock wave.
