Lawton Fire Department Promotion Ceremony

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON,Okla_ It was a big night at Lawton City Hall for 23 members of the Lawton Fire Department.

They were honored with promotions in the wake of several recent retirements.  Chief Dewayne Burk said it's the largest promotion ceremony they've had in 25 years.

He said that's a credit to the dedication of those who served so long, and hopes these men will follow in their footsteps.

"For the guys that accomplished their 25-year career, they've moved on to greener pastures, so to speak, and these guys are stepping up and prepared themselves to take their place. We're absolutely proud of each and every one of these guys tonight. They've accomplished something that not all firemen do and that's the ability to move up, and promote to that next level," said Burk.

In addition to the promotions, 15 new cadets were welcomed at Thursday night's ceremony.
This is the largest group to be hired at one time and it includes one woman, who could very well be the first female to join Lawton's Fire Department.
