CULVER City, Calif., Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leading companies in molecular imaging, life sciences, in vivo diagnostics, and the biotechnology and medical device industries will be showcasing state-of-the-art technologies and products at 6th World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) in Savannah, GA September 18 – 21, 2013. Combined with scientific breakthroughs in molecular imaging being presented at the WMIC, this innovation serves as a catalyst for advances in diagnostics and targeted therapy that support precision medicine.
"As the world's gathering place for all who are interested molecular imaging, the WMIC scientific program and technology showcase cover a broad spectrum of basic and translational research. Our goal as a field is to optimize basic, preclinical and translational research leading to medical and molecular imaging discoveries, greater linkages between research and real world outcomes, and ultimately significant improvements in healthcare," said Anna Wu, President Elect of WMIS 2013-2014, Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, UCLA.
Participating companies include industry leaders such as Siemens, Agilent, PerkinElmer, Lilly, Bruker, and Mediso, with many unveiling new solutions in molecular imaging. Product introductions will include new contrast agents that can be used for both diagnostic and treatment guidance applications, imaging modalities, an open platform for preclinical ultrasound research and a preclinical microCT scanner. Other innovations to be featured at WMIC include the demonstration of how mass spectrometry molecular imaging can be used for the identification and localization of the molecular products of all living cells. Several of the new developments and findings by these companies will be featured in nearly 50 clinical talks and posters presented at the Congress.
"WMIS commends our exhibitors for their innovation and collaborations that help drive the progressive field of molecular imaging in support of more precise patient care," said Zaver Bhujwalla, Ph.D., WMIS President, and Professor, Radiology & Radiological Science, Oncology; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
ABOUT WORLD MOLECULAR IMAGING SOCIETY
The WMIS is dedicated to developing and promoting translational research through multimodal molecular imaging. The education and abstract-driven WMIC annual meeting is held in conjunction with European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI) and Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging (FASMI). WMIC is the only meeting that provides a unique platform for scientists and clinicians with very diverse backgrounds to interact, present, and follow cutting-edge advances in molecular imaging. Industry exhibits at the congress include the latest advances in preclinical and clinical imaging applications creating a complete molecular imaging educational technology showcase.
