Rangers Battle Wildcats

The Perryton Rangers continued their tough pre-district schedule as they hosted the Canadian Wildcats last Friday night. The Wildcats entered the contest ranked 5th in the state district 2A DII standings.

The game began 45 minutes late due to lightning and heavy thunderstorms in the area. The wet conditions did little to slow down either team's offense as the chains moved constantly. The Rangers finished the game with 448 total yards while the Wildcats turned in a 400 total yard performance.

The Wildcats defeated the Rangers by a score of 38-22 in a hard fought game. Canadian was led by senior Quarterback Ben Arbuckle, who threw for 3 touchdowns and 377 yards on the night.

Perryton was led by seniors on both sides of the ball in the game. Jeran Karber led the defense with 10 tackles including 6 solo and 3 sacks. Karber also forced two fumbles and recovered one despite being double team blocked for most of the game.

Jake Whittenburg led the Ranger offense with 3 touchdowns and 178 rushing yards on 25 carries. He also caught 5 passes for 28 yards. Senior Garrett Good turned in a solid performance rushing for 44 yards on 4 carries and hauling in 5 passes for 61 yards. Junior Ivan Tevis caught 5 passes for a total of 60 yards for the Rangers. Other Rangers with receptions were Chance Garcia (4/22 yards) and Reagan Watson (2/27 yards). Quarterback Justin Ventura went 21-43 for 199 passing yards and carried the ball 9 times for 27 yards.

The loss takes Perryton's season record to 0-3. The Rangers make the long trip to Lubbock to take on the Lubbock Cooper Pirates on Friday. The Pirates enter the contest with a 2-1 record on the season.
