LAWTON,Okla_The Lawton City Council delayed a vote Tuesday night on a proposal to ban the sale of fireworks within the city limits.
The proposal was supported by the city's fire chief and fire marshal. They cited safety concerns as well as the financial cost to the city in terms of manpower responding to the fires caused each year by fireworks.
Instead of taking a vote, the mayor appointed a four-person committee, consisting of Doug Wells, Jay Burk, Keith Jackson and Dwight Tanner to study it closer, and bring recommendations back to the council. They hope to have those ready by the middle of November.
