5 foot marijuana plant leads to 4 arrests

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON,Okla_New information in the Thursday evening arrests of several individuals after an enormous  marijuana plant standing five feet tall was discovered in the back yard of a north Lawton home.

Friday police arrested 4 people.  They say one of the men was living at the home and all four were friends.

Police went to a house at northwest 12th and Smith Thursday after someone tipped them off that drugs were being sold from the home.

Inside police found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, two illegal firearms, and a police scanner.  The serial number to one of the guns had been scraped off.  They say three of the men arrested are convicted felons.

During their search police found a  five foot-tall  marijuana plant growing in the back yard. It was so big, some people who saw it thought it was a tree. Detectives say it was growing wild.

The homeowner told police he knew what it was but never attempted to cut it down. Police say they don't believe the plant was being used to produce marijuana to be sold.
