Inmate Grabs Officer's Gun

LAWTON,Okla_A Lawton man just minutes away from walking out of jail is back in jail Friday night after he grabbed a gun from an officer's belt while still inside the police station.

It happened just before 4 p.m. Police say an officer was in the process of escorting two people out of jail to release them. All three were in the station's elevator when one of the individuals grabbed the plain clothes officer's holster with his gun from his belt.

The two fell to the ground but the officer was able to wrestle his gun away while still in the elevator. When the doors opened, the other inmate screamed for help.

Police have not released the man's identity but they said he was arrested Thursday night for resisting arrest. He now faces a felony charge.  Police say they believe he was still under the influence of drugs.
