Veterans host free fishing tournament for area kids

Posted: Updated:

Veterans in Amarillo had the chance to reconnect with area youth this weekend as everyone enjoyed a perfect day of fishing fun.

Hundreds of kids and their families swarmed Medi Park in Amarillo almost all day on Saturday for a Kid's Fishing Tournament hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #297. The event was completely free of charge, making the day a completely free and fun day for everyone.

"We had a great turnout and we're just glad to be able to get the kids out here, talk to us, ask questions and just have a good time fishing," said Terry Kirby, President of the local Vietnam Veterans of America branch.

The group also gave out prizes Saturday for not only the biggest fish caught, but also the first fish caught and even the smallest fish.
