Celita Scarborough Named Artist of the Year

Posted: Updated:

A Native American artist is being honored as Artist of the Year in Medicine Park.

Celita Scaroborough will be honored at the The Branded Bear store in Medicine Park, OK from 2-6 PM October 19th.

The only child of artistic, globe-trotting parents, Celita Scarborough crossed the borders of 31 countries before her teens, observing the art of the world.

Educated by a private tutor and sent to finishing school in Europe, she began making jewelry that reflected the indigenous peoples of the world and her own Native American heritage.

After a nearly ten-year hiatus spent in Asia, she returned to spend most of her time in Canada and the U.S. designing Native American Dance Regalia and jewelry. Being of Mandan and Lummi tribes, her designs vary widely, often incorporating the use of shells.

Happy to be living in Oklahoma raising Arabian Thoroughbred horses, she is the mother of three, grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of two. Her work with traditional cultural items is inspired by stories from her father, who was born in 1898.

She enjoys creating one-of-a-kind pieces and using unusual stones and minerals.
