Posted: Updated:

ALTUS Okla_ Altus Air Force Base Public Affairs Chief 1st LT Katie Cousins has released the following statement regarding civilian employees out of work during the government shutdown.

"... 321 Altus Air Force Base civilian employees were furloughed until further notice, unless excepted... The Altus AFB mission of forging combat mobility forces and deploying Airmen warriors will continue, as Altus leadership identified non-excepted personnel that are essential to the mission."

Cousins continues her statement by confirming certain base facilities will be closed or working on a limited basis as a result of these furloughs. The Base Commissary (starting tomorrow), library and civilian personnel office are closed until further notice. The fitness center and the Airmen and Family Readiness Center will be operating on a limited basis.

97th Air Mobility Wing Commander Col. Spangenthal released a statement thanking the airmen and their families and stating the wing will continue their mission and help their "teammates through this stressful time."
