Work Begins On Temporary Medical Center For Moore

Posted: Updated:

MOORE, Okla. (AP) - Construction is underway on a temporary medical center that will serve residents in Moore.

The Moore Medical Center was destroyed in the May 20 tornado, though no one taking shelter in the hospital was seriously injured or killed. This week, the foundation went up on a temporary facility to serve residents.

The new emergency and outpatient center should be up and running by Dec. 2.

The modular structure is being constructed by Johnson Portables - the same company that built a temporary hospital in Joplin, Mo., following the 2011 tornado.

The company's president, Brian Johnson, says they're ahead of schedule so far and plan to finish the structure in about two weeks. After that, crews will work on getting the interior ready for patients.
